Take advantage of it by sporting tousled waves that fall down your back. This romantic ‘do will complete a tulle or floral-appliquéd gown at a swanky ballroom or lush garden venue. From low chignons to retro-style curls, these hairdos will elevate any bridal look. It can sometimes be a challenge styling short hair like a pixie for formal occasions, but singer Janelle Monae shows us the way. Slick it down and accessorize with bejeweled barrettes to add interest.

A Boho Braid

Divide your hair into two sections and twist them towards the back of your head. Secure the twists with bobby pins, leaving some loose tendrils to frame your face. Finish by adding small, delicate flowers or floral hairpins throughout the twists for a whimsical touch. When it doubt, there’s nothing a simple hair twist can’t solve!

Crown Braid

Opt for an elegant low bun or a chic chignon, securing it at the nape of your neck. Place your veil just above or below the updo, allowing it to flow seamlessly into your hairstyle. This combination exudes sophistication and allows your veil to take center stage. Embrace a romantic and boho-inspired look with a braided updo. Create two or three loose braids on either side of your head, incorporating them into a low bun or twisted updo at the back.

Turn Up the Volume

Shine and bounce of this caliber will have everyone begging for your hair secrets. Looser waves can work for any wedding, as long as they don't veer too far into boho territory. Gorgeous half-up, half-down and updo ideas to DIY from home (or your hotel room).

These bridesmaids stunningly showcase the range of their braids from a low chignon to a loose coif to a sky-high ponytail. Even the simplest and most perfectly undone of styles get a serious injection of elegance and glam from the addition of a gorgeous hair accessory. To create this stunningly minimalistic wedding guest hair look, loosely (but securely) gather your hair at the base of the neck and twist into a simple loop.

The whole event was low-key and minimal and I approached my beauty look with the same laissez-faire. Be sure that you read the instructions carefully before using your hairpieces. There you will find the guidelines on how to prepare your hair.

With dimensional, caramel highlights accenting the weave and tons of exquisite flyaways, the bride nailed the effortless beach goddess look. An off-the-shoulder lace gown also complemented the bohemian look. For something more au natural, wear your natural hair texture all down with an almost-wet look, like TV personality Kim Kardashian. This works best for a casual wedding or to balance out a glam outfit. “Since my dress had so much going on, I didn’t really want to add anything over the top,” Megan says. Both brides’ bouquets were monobotanical, made of extra-long-stemmed Playa Blanca roses.

Long Wedding Ponytail

Tim Quinn, then the brand’s celebrity makeup artist, asked me who was going to be doing my hair and makeup. (I wasn’t a big “makeup person,” so I’d never even done any makeup trials, figuring I could just execute a simple look on my own.) “Wow, great idea,” he said. It’s an intense day, you’ll have a lot going on, and your already limited hair and makeup skills might not be at their finest, he continued. Almost 18 years later, my gratitude to Tim and Kelly remains undimmed. Enhance your natural curls for your wedding and complement this stunning style with a jeweled clip.

90 years of expert advice and inspiration, for every couple. Issa Rae's epic green smokey eye is totally optional, but we can't recommend her pulled back, curly pony enough. It's sleek, simple and will give you all the sophistication you need for a wedding.

Megan fell in love at first sight with her Naeem Khan gown when she saw it at Saks’ bridal salon. The color scheme was “chic and crisp,” black and white with pops of gold. Keep the rest of your style simple and let your natural texture be the star of the show. DeZarate used an iced jade roller to bring down any puffiness and massaged my skin with La Mer Moisturizing Matte Lotion for that truly luxurious feel. Then she buffed out a few areas where my skin looked uneven with a light layer of Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer and a few dabs of concealer.

Wedding Hairstyles For Long Hair: 100+ Ideas All Hair Types

Top with a flowing veil, and the aesthetic is nothing short of ethereal. This bride went for a head-to-toe glitzy look with retro vibes. The glittering hair comb with crystal details mirrors the art deco theme of the dress beautifully. A glamorous crystal-embellished headband finishes off this otherwise streamlined ensemble.

Retro Bride

The truth is, ordinarily, there are no put-down best hairstyle for a wedding. Every bridal hairstyle is beautiful, but your face type is what determines it. There are certain hairstyles a person will pull off that another won’t.

The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Hair

The timeless chignon is a go-to choice for brides seeking an elegant and polished look. Create a low, sleek bun at the nape of your neck or opt for a slightly higher variation for a modern twist. Adorn it with hair accessories such as sparkling pins or delicate floral accents. For picking the perfect wedding hairstyle decide which wedding style you prefer. Consult your hairstylist before picking the wedding hairstyles, cause your hair type and length will play a huge role. There are a lot of moments to consider when choosing the best hairstyle for your wedding.

Loose Bun with Long Strands

For her New York Wedding, the bride made her voluminous braid even more special by adding in fragrant jasmine flowers. As a nod to her South Asian heritage, the intricate style was equally symbolic and beautiful. Instead of fully wearing your hair down, add layers with a half-up bridal hairstyle. For this bride's California nuptials, she first had her hair styled in barreling waves before her stylist clipped a portion of her tresses back. If you have statement earrings, like these dangling beaded jewels, a pulled-back look will call attention to them. A fishtail braid, as this bride wore on her special day in North Carolina, is a fun and whimsical option that emphasizes texture.

Timeless Waves

A good rule of thumb is to scroll through photos of real weddings to see couples’ hairstyles during their actual wedding day. These photos can provide realistic expectations of how an ideal hairstyle will last, especially for an outdoor wedding susceptible to wind and humidity. You can also follow hair salons and stylists on social media so you can save your favorite photos of their clients’ styles. Whether you're a friend of the soon-to-be newlyweds or a relative flying in for the wedding, you'll need a special hairstyle to mark the occasion. So, if you're ready to find the perfect hair embellishment to fit your personal style, we put together a list of ideas straight from real brides. Ahead, take a look through some of our favorite hair accessories for weddings, fit for any bride-to-be and hairdo.

Natural curls swept up in an elegant updo are even more striking when decorated with floral hair pins, as this bride selected for her intimate New Orleans wedding. Scatter the delicately embellished hair accessories throughout your waves for a glimpse of shimmer. Perfectly loose, voluminous locks parted down the middle are effortless and timeless for any bridal hairstyle.

Side Buns Wedding Hairstyles: 21 Trendy...

All the ease and beauty of an ultra-low ponytail with the additional funkiness that a subtle, off-center grip creates. Brushed-out waves are oh so romantic and look incredible on ultra-long lengths and chic lobs and bobs alike. For brides with shorter hair, consider donning a piece that completely covers your head.

Curls Swept to the Side

hair decorations for a wedding

Choose makeup with bright eyes or lips, radiant skin, and smooth shiny hair. Such a combination will be the implementation of elegance and style. It is best to curl your hair and then continue to work with neat curls. You can also straighten your hair – it all depends on the bride’s desires and the whole wedding look.

Wedding Hairstyles For Short Hair...

There is a great variety of gorgeous short wedding hairstyles for brides with haircuts. And the accessories will help to complete the wedding look. Classic veils will always be stunning—but for brides looking to deviate from tradition, a chic hair accessory (or two) can seamlessly level up any wedding look.

Styling bangs for an elegant bridal look requires careful consideration and attention to detail. Accessories – are the important elements that will complement your wedding hairstyles. Choosing the right accessories will play a huge role in creating your wedding look.

Try a matte texturizing spray for added fullness that won't deter from the easy vibe. Instead of straightening your hair into a sheath of pin-straight locks, slightly curl the ends inward for a more glam aesthetic. Add a little bit of volume throughout the strands to keep the look soft and not too sleek. Shorter lengths with bouncy curls look instantly retro-chic with the addition of a sparkly hair accessory. Use the hairpins to pull some pieces away from the face on only one side for a vampy curtain-like effect on the other. This laid-back low ponytail cleans up well with the addition of an old-world, intricate crown.

A deep side part can naturally add volume to any short cut. It also creates the perfect placement for a flower or other accessory. Go au naturale on your wedding day with lush, flowing curls. Leave them exactly as they are or smooth some hair oil or gloss over them for a chic, glossy look. It also allows your natural (or iron-perfected) waves to softly face your face.

With twisted, intertwining locks, tons of volume, and an embellished hair comb, this bride’s ponytail is taken to the next level. We love the way this bride wore curls piled and pinned on top of her head. What an easy (and pretty!) way to get your hair out of your face so you can show off all your best dance moves at the reception. Elevate your updo with graceful twists that add dimension and interest.

You can opt between some additional strands and a classical back updo. Gather your hair into a purposefully messy, beautiful bun at the nape of your neck. This tousled hairdo is effortlessly beautiful and easy to add hairbands, flower crowns, and hair pins to. Kinky hair, or ‘type 4,’ has the tightest curl pattern of the categories. This type of hair resembles tight coils or zig-zag coils that require manipulation, such as a blowout or rod set, to stretch them out. A tousled half-up, half-down hairstyle gets a refreshing upgrade with the addition of a fun, messy bun.

Tuck these wispy, gold-toned pins into a deconstructed updo or bevy of tousled beach waves for low-key hair that still makes an impact. For the person who enjoys a minimal beauty look, add this streamlined hair pin to the center of a bun or French twist for polished elegance with architectural influence. We love how the cut is full of choppy layers that still look soft and touchable rather than overly edgy. Don't completely discount a high ponytail as a wedding guest look. The style can inject some youthfulness into any ensemble and still convey an air of elegance. The combed-back wet look makes for a runway-ready contrast to an otherwise soft and feminine ensemble.

We especially love the vertical placement of this bride's piece, which also adds a bit of drama. For a romantic look, opt for a waterfall of cascading curls. Go for big-barrel waves and brush through your hair for an even more effortless look. Long locks parted to the side will look especially alluring with a billowing strapless ball gown.

Does at-home laser hair removal work? Yes and no

back hair removal

Don't worry, unlike waxing, our lasers treat the hair follicle so no need to grow it out. If you’re considering laser hair removal for your back, the first step is to schedule a consultation. This appointment is crucial for determining if you’re a good candidate and mapping out a customized treatment plan. While laser hair removal will never completely prevent hair growth, the back hair that you do grow will be thinner, lighter and, most importantly, require far less frequent, if any, management. Lower back laser hair removal addresses the hair growing just above the buttocks and on the lower half of the back.

Depilatory creams—break down the keratin of the hair near the surface of the skin, leaving you with a smooth finish without having to pluck out any follicles. You’ll enjoy smoother results for longer than a shave—a few days more, says Dr. Graf—but not nearly as long as waxing. In general, most people can tolerate these creams, though the active ingredient can be aggressive on skin and should be spot-checked before proceeding with the entire broadside of your back. “It’s important to remember that because of the chemicals the cream contains, it isn’t safe to use on certain parts of the body like the face [and groin],” adds Dr. Graf. “You should always do a small skin test before using broadly, to avoid irritation.” Be sure to rinse off up to five times after use, too. If you’re tired of wrestling with a hairy back, laser hair removal may be the perfect lasting solution for you.

If done properly—read the specific instructions on the brand of the cream you purchased—then you should have little to no problems with irritation or redness. Who doesn’t want a long-lasting solution for their back hair? There are some spots on the back that are impossible to reach without help, which is why many men opt for professional hair removal services. You’ll need help to get to the hair on your back with help of a friend or partner. You should also be careful with wax as it can irritate your hair follicles and up your risk for ingrown hairs. Waxing is another option, and doing it at home can be almost as affordable as shaving and creams. The upside of waxing is that your back hair won’t grow back as fast so you won’t have to wax as often as shaving or using creams.

Keep in mind that shaving will have to be kept up regularly for best results. Shaved hair may also feel or look like it’s growing darker and coarser with each shave. There are plenty of removal options and treatments for people who don’t want back hair, including for those who may have hirsutism. Dozens of over-the-counter supplements and products purport to reverse hair loss, making it tough for patients to know which ones work and which don’t. An IPL device with an adequate cooling mechanism to reduce risk of burns is a must.

Minimize the use of high-heat styling tools, hair extensions and harsh treatments like perms. Information and Facts about Diamonds and Diamond Gemstones

But it turns out this too was a marketing slogan that had been coined less than a decade earlier. And it’s not even true, because diamond is an unstable form of carbon that eventually degrades to graphite – although it takes millions of years to do so, according to Dr Christopher S. Baird of West Texas A&M University. Graphite is what pencil lead is made from, and it’s so soft that it rubs off onto the page when you write with it. Diamond, on the other hand, is one of the hardest known substances – so hard it can only be scratched with another diamond. Diamond crystals are made from just one chemical element, carbon according to the GIA.

The Gem of Heat and Pressure

Historically, the epicentre of diamond mining activity was in Africa, but more recently diamonds have been found in many other parts of the world according to geologist Hobart M. King of Geology.com. Isometric; Crystals sometimes sharp octahedra, dodecahedra, and combinations with other forms. Crystals modified, often rounded and distinguished by the presence of triangular-shaped pits on octahedral faces (once believed to be due to etching, these 'trigons'' are currently believed to be a result of the growth process). From the Greek word adamas, meaning the hardest steel, and hence the hardest gemstone. The project aims to benefit tourism, create thousands of jobs between construction and operating jobs, ease traffic congestion on I-15 and eliminate 400,000 tons of carbon pollution each year.

Revenues from diamond and its industries have already helped build roads and bridges, improve healthcare and education and expand communication and technology networks. Modern, large-scale diamond mining began in 1912 when diamonds were discovered in a stream in northeast Angola. Angola’s diamond production has been inconsistent, with most of its potential still untapped. People have successfully made lab-grown diamonds for use in fine jewelry. The stones are undistinguishable from natural diamonds, even when observed by experienced gemologists. Most of these diamonds are used to make cutting tools and abrasives.

How diamonds reflect light

Namdeb, the largest Namibian mining group, is a 50/50 partnership between the Namibian government and the DeBeers group. Literacy rates have reached above 80%, and healthcare and compulsory primary education are free. Over 90% of the population has access to clean drinking water and electricity, and the country has more than 6,000 miles of paved road, compared to fewer than 10 miles at its independence in 1966. Funds from diamonds also go towards wildlife preservation efforts — especially of cheetahs and white rhinos — and towards empowering women entrepreneurs and fighting AIDS. When Botswana achieved independence from the British Empire in 1966, it was one of the poorest countries in the world. But its fate changed a mere year later when De Beers discovered an enormous diamond kimberlite pipe in Orapa.

Those with a saturated, vivid color are called "fancy-color diamonds" or "fancies". On average, only one diamond in 10,000 has a color that earns the "fancy" designation. Some of them have sold at auction for over one million dollars per carat. They are some of the world's most valuable and spectacular diamonds. As white light passes through a diamond, this high dispersion causes that light to separate into its component colors. Dispersion is what enables a prism to separate white light into the colors of the spectrum.

Since the discovery of the Orapa pipe and other pipes, Botswana has become the world’s second largest diamond producer. The first major diamond deposit was discovered in 1989 by Canadian exploration geologist, Charles Fipke, after a decade-long search in the Northwest Territories in Canada. With a hardness of ten on the Mohs Scale, diamond is the hardest natural substance. Diamonds are so hard that the only tools that can be used to cut a diamond must be made from another diamond.

Industry Products

Africa still plays a leading role, with countries such as Botswana, Angola, South Africa, Namibia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo all producing more than a million carats of diamonds each year. However, the combined output of those five countries – around 30 million carats – is exceeded by two non-African countries, Russia and Canada, which produce 41 million carats between them. And many other countries produce smaller quantities of gem-quality diamonds, including Australia, Brazil and Guyana. In a few places diamond-bearing material from these depths has been carried up to the surface by volcanic eruptions – and some of this material was subsequently washed into the river beds where diamonds were first found.

Gem-grade diamonds

D–J colored diamonds can be screened through the Swiss Gemmological Institute's[158] Diamond Spotter. Diamond is a solid form of the element carbon with its atoms arranged in a crystal structure called diamond cubic. Another solid form of carbon known as graphite is the chemically stable form of carbon at room temperature and pressure, but diamond is metastable and converts to it at a negligible rate under those conditions.

Some jewelry experts advise consumers to buy a 0.99-carat (198 mg) diamond for its better price or buy a 1.10-carat (220 mg) diamond for its better cut, avoiding a 1.00-carat (200 mg) diamond which is more likely to be a poorly cut stone. In addition to carrying the most importance to a diamond's quality as a gemstone, the cut is also the most difficult to quantitatively judge. A number of factors, including proportion, polish, symmetry, and the relative angles of various facets, are determined by the quality of the cut and can affect the performance of a diamond. A diamond with facets cut only a few degrees out of alignment can result in a poorly performing stone.

But infrastructure upgrades include new replaced bridges, a new cart tunnel for access to and from holes 4 through 9. The Rancho Cucamonga Station is approximately 80,000 square feet plus parking. The Victor Valley Station in Apple Valley will be located on a 300-acre parcel southeast of Dale Evans Parkway and the I-15 interchange.

The same is true of graphite, which is a much commoner mineral that couldn’t be more different in appearance and properties. Diamond is the hardest natural substance and easily scratches any other mineral. The difference in hardness between diamond and corundum (9) is very much greater than that between any other two minerals on the Mohs scale. Dr. Joel E. Arem has more than 60 years of experience in the world of gems and minerals.

This remote town close the Arctic circle is home to roughly 40,000 people, most of them employed by the Russian diamond producer, Alrosa, which has its headquarters there. Drilling oil and gas wells down through thousands of feet of rock requires a tough drill bit. Small diamonds are embedded into the cutting surfaces of these bits. The extremely hard diamonds wear away the rock as the drill bit is turned in the hole. They do not form naturally at Earth's surface or at shallow depths. The conditions where they can form are in Earth's mantle about 100 miles below the surface.

The cut of a diamond describes the quality of workmanship and the angles to which a diamond is cut. The first commercially successful synthesis of diamond was accomplished in 1954 by workers at General Electric. Since then, many companies have been successful at producing synthetic diamond suitable for industrial use.

This close-knit, dense, strongly bonded crystal structure yields diamond properties that differ greatly from those of graphite, native carbon’s other form. Screening devices based on diamond type detection can be used to make a distinction between diamonds that are certainly natural and diamonds that are potentially synthetic. Those potentially synthetic diamonds require more investigation in a specialized lab. Examples of commercial screening devices are D-Screen (WTOCD / HRD Antwerp), Alpha Diamond Analyzer (Bruker / HRD Antwerp), and D-Secure (DRC Techno).

Hyatt House San Jose Cupertino from $134 Cupertino Hotel Deals & Reviews

hyatt house cupertino

I must say that the San Jose/Cupertino site was one of the best of the "roadside hotels" we've stayed in in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and service. Our stay included a hearty, healthy, fresh, and delicious breakfast with many choices -- an excellent way to start the day. Conveniently located to all points we needed to visit in the area, we would definitely stay at this property again when visiting our family. The quadruple room has carpeted floors, a seating area with a flat-screen TV with cable channels, air conditioning, a tea and coffee maker, as well as a wardrobe. Whats the Difference Between Communication Design, Visual Communication Design and Graphic Design?

communications design

Marketing communications communicates an important message to the desired market with help of tools like social media, sponsorship, personal selling, direct marketing etc. This type of communication design refers to fine and applied arts and is a type of art form. Communication Designers give visual form to information, ideas, and feelings. They inform, persuade, educate, and entertain using typography, photography, drawing, video/animation, audio, storytelling, interaction, and space.

Information graphics

It is a creative space and a community in microcosm, from which we connect to the larger community. We believe education takes place in the studio and the classroom and that the work in the studio benefits the student’s growth through an exchange of ideas, skills, and aspirations. Working with your peers in the studio deepens knowledge of the opportunities inherent in form-making and design exploration. An app designer might work on anything from a gaming app to a financial services app to a health tracking app. They will develop the visual images and the accompanying text, along with establishing how users can navigate the program. Hitesh Bhasin is the CEO of Marketing91 and has over a decade of experience in the marketing field.

Colleges

Communication designers increasingly collaborate with other fields to help meet human needs. Pratt’s distinguished alumni are leading diverse and thriving careers, addressing critical challenges and creating innovative work that reimagines our world. Graduates move on to a diverse selection of companies and institutions, including MIT, MoMA, the NY Times, RISD, Nike, Apple, Scholastic, BBDO, TBWA, and Google.

When it comes to packaging and label creation, there are so many opportunities for designers. When someone studies communications design, they come away with a degree that has them ready for a wide range of jobs. Like Eduardo, “Soy …una afroboricua guillá y con babilla,” which in English roughly translates to “I am a gutsy and self-assured” Afro Puerto Rican. Eduardo supports the work of scholars of color and scholarship in race and racism that is often pushed to the margins and delegitimated in academia. He has been a mentor and outspoken advocate for countless scholars of race even when doing so has negatively impacted his own career and well-being.

This sub-discipline is applied to products manufactured on a huge scale. The features of the design are created even before the manufacturing of the product. Pratt is a diverse, international community of students and faculty working together in a very local community, connecting with our immediate and global neighbors, in the hyper international city of New York.

Yet these practices are as effective as the old ones in preserving the racial status quo… perpetuated nowadays in a (mostly) color-blind way. Mobile app designers may be hired by a company to create and manage their app, or they may create their own products and sell them through their own company. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual wage for graphic designers is $52,110. The Communications Design curriculum embraces the multifaceted and interdisciplinary nature of communication design practice. Our courses and projects promote the rich exchange embodied in a studio culture that values the development of individual perspectives, critique, visual literacy, media fluency, experiential learning, and innovative formal outcomes. In an increasingly mobile-friendly world, app designers play an important role in enabling people to complete tasks on their mobile devices. Whereas an app developer writes the code that creates the program, an app designer will determine how the interface looks and how users will navigate the app.

It lays the foundation for the thought process and helps in problem-solving, thinking things through and understanding what they should do. It is the responsibility of a communication designer to look at the whole picture from the onset to the finish and use their work in creating stunning graphics that will have maximum impact on the viewer. People who are part of communication design also work in related fields like app design and branding. Professional communication designers build careers wherever communication is important.

Pursue a Graphic Design or Communications Degree

One of the best things about graphic design is that it never stands still for a moment. Both individuals and organizations that work with arXivLabs have embraced and accepted our values of openness, community, excellence, and user data privacy. ArXiv is committed to these values and only works with partners that adhere to them. CISA has also worked to drive adoption of Secure by Design software through federal procurement. Software insecurity is threat-agnostic—well-known and easily-exploited classes of defect make it easy for nation-state adversaries and criminals alike to compromise our critical infrastructure and put Americans at unacceptable risk.

In some cases, companies may also use communication design to launch public awareness campaigns. For instance, a car manufacturer might launch a campaign intended to raise awareness about impaired driving. Colour, graphics, patterns, symbols, images, and typography are some of the tools a communication designer needs to master, as all of them have the power to communicate the tone and the intention of the message. With the advent of technology, people are increasingly exposed to information and less patient to consume it, which is making visual communication dominate the media.

Communication design is specifically used when discussing the strategy involved in expressing information through visual design. For communication designers, this can become the foundation for how they think about visuals and is, then, the real definition of what they do. Those who work in communication design may work in fields like branding, advertising, or web and app design. Their job isn’t just about the craft of creating stunning graphics, but about realizing the power of what their work can communicate and then using that to its fullest extent. If a graphic designer was hired to handle one visual element, a communication designer would be hired to both create visuals and to handle communicating a company’s message to their audience. Communication design program is a common approach used to express a clear message while discussing the strategy with the help of strategic visual design.

It's crucial to brainstorm with the acquired company's team to see how to merge personalities across marketing materials. Communication designers may work in advertising, web or app design, branding, or product design, among many other fields. Communication designers are leading thriving careers, addressing critical challenges, and creating innovative work that reimagines our world, at a diverse selection of companies and institutions. They also go on to become entrepreneurs and principals leading their own studios and businesses. The design studio is at the core of your educational experience at Pratt.

How Eduardo Bonilla-Silva Changed Our Understanding of Racism

This may seem basic, but people often really struggle to establish themselves when they are out of their comfort zone. Design deserves a space at the head of the table; it deserves a chance to shine. It’s exhilarating to realize we are in an age where this isn’t uncommon, but if this is where we want design to remain and grow from, as designers, we really need to be able to talk business.

Making and Learning

This program lays the foundation for both professional practice and academic careers. Communication design is a mixed discipline between design and information-development concerned with how media communicate with people. A communication design approach is concerned with developing the message and aesthetics in media. It also creates new media channels to ensure the message reaches the target audience. Due to overlapping skills, some designers use graphic design and communication design interchangeably. If a graphic designer is a person who creates specific graphic or visual elements, a communication designer uses those elements in designing a strategic plan to communicate a broader message to an audience.

The communication design definition, put more simply, would be utilizing visuals that strategically express information. As technological advancements open the graphic design industry up to change, design becomes even more prevalent in our world. During discussions, speak up and use your body language to communicate confidence. Try not to over-communicate or take a bully stance—pause regularly, listen attentively, and give time for questions.

Second-year coursework introduces fundamental theories, methodologies, and skills central to communication design. Courses prompt students to define and explore a design process that engages research, historical and contemporary contexts, experimentation, audience, technology, and play in the construction of meaningful visual forms. Next, imagine a larger circle that encompasses both graphic design and communication design.

If someone says they are a communication designer, you will immediately understand that means they are creating strategic visuals that express a specific message. If someone tells you they are a graphic designer, you may have to ask more questions to determine if they are working in communication design or, more specifically, working to create visuals of various uses. Perhaps the most popular one is advertising, which includes social media design, video production, copywriting, and others. Digital design is also a constant need nowadays, it is focused on the user experience, which makes companies able to sell more products by providing comfort and practicality to the consumer online. Another possibility is identity design and branding, which is to develop the visual identity of an organization—or even a person—so they can communicate clearly what their values and qualities are. Careers in communication design create problem solvers and conceptual thinkers who can develop original ideas or communications designers translate ideas and messages.

They focus on creating a visual style that flows from one image and page to the next. They work for magazines, product packaging companies, movie and television producers, and newspapers. They need to have good eye for design and also an understanding of how design communicates to people reading or viewing the media. Communication design combines the theory and applications of communication with the concepts and insights of design. These students study art techniques and communication techniques to help them learn how to communicate through visuals, experiences and spaces, as well as words.

I love checking out houseboats, being on the water, and ice cream, so it was a win win for me! The Captain did a fun tour of Lake Union and an interesting history of his boat. Captain and Crew

We recommend the Seattle ice cream cruise to tourists and locals alike. It’s a fun adventure that will send you on your way quickly, so you can run along to the next fun thing in Seattle. The 45-minute Seattle ice cream cruise is a fun, fully narrated tour around Lake Union. ” The ice cream season may have hit Seattle a bit early this year, but since July is National Ice Cream Month, it deserves a little extra celebration. We couldn’t think of a better way to cheer for ice cream than by booking passage on the Seattle Ferry Sunday Ice Cream Cruise.

Seattle is a world-class food city, with some of the best dining options on the West Coast. From Pan-Asian to Mediterranean, there’s a restaurant to please all palates here. For a first date idea in Seattle we want something extra-special as an experience worth remembering. Check out House of Eve, one of the most widely recommended restaurants in Seattle among Instagrammers! The seasonal menu focuses on fresh, sustainable ingredients with an artistic presentation. A few times a year we will head out the ship canal at Shilshole Bay, at the top of this chart, round West Point and head into Elliott Bay.

This is where you’ll find the famous Rainier “R” sign, a Boeing B-1 plane, and more! Kids ages 14 and under are free and MOHAI is free every first Thursday of the month. My kids have been obsessed with the little toy boats since they played with them at Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris last year.

Argosy Cruises - Lake Union

The captain narrates this Seattle Lake Union cruise to explain a bit about the history of Seattle and the sights you’ll see. Everyone pays regular fares, with a minimum total of $450 (equal to 25 adult fares). You can reserve a private sailing with a deposit of the $450 minimum and pay for any extra fares on the day of sailing. You can pre-pay for concessions, run a tab or have guests pay individually. So, you can try your luck at any of the street parking nearby.

Private Charters

Check in for the most up-to-date options. We would love to have you join us as we travel between our home dock at Fisherman’s Terminal and our Ice Cream Cruise base at Lake Union Park. Bring your bikes (or your walking shoes) for the three-mile return trip along the beautiful, all-protected bike paths on the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Westlake Avenue. We were THRILLED to discover that the Center for Wooden Boats has them available to borrow for a $5 suggested donation at the pond right at South Lake Union Park. Find out more about the pond boat sailing here. For our cruise in August, they turned a few people away who had to wait for the next cruise.

This will be a lot easier than taking them to the restroom. They have an electric foot pedal to flush and the Captain stated that kids have a hard time with them. They have chips, coffee, soda, and hot chocolate available.

They might have other items available in cooler weather. The Sunday Ice Cream Cruise in Seattle is cash/check only. They are next to the Museum of History and Industry clock at South Lake Union Park. You’ll see a sandwich board sign with balloons on it.

Informal, fun, family friendly and dog friendly. Ice cream is optional, but highly encouraged! Departing on the hour from Lake Union Park, next to the Museum of History and Industry. We offer gift cards, group reservations on Saturdays, private Ice Cream Cruises, and our Bike-and-Boat, where you join us on the deadhead run to and from Fisherman’s Terminal. There is more to the Ice Cream Cruise, Seattle’s sweetest trip around Lake Union.

All the while enjoying ice cream or other non-dairy goodies and beverages on the ship’s deck. Like I mentioned, cruise is narrated (with some funky music mixed in). The captain does a great job of keeping the tour humorous (often yelling “We have ice cream!” at passing boats), but he’s also very informative. There’s so much history on Lake Union that Tove and I didn’t know about (and we’ve lived in this area for much of our lives).

The cruise launches from South Lake Union Park (near the northeast corner of the Museum of History and Industry). Departures take place between 11am-3pm on the hour. There are no reservations, so show up early to make sure you’re not left behind. Tickets are $18 for adults, $13 for kids 3-12, and $5 for children 2 and under.

BYO food gets a green light from Captain Larry. Pack a lunch or a light snack to level out the blood sugars after all that yummy ice cream. This is a great way for families, scout groups, birthday parties or just groups of friends to see truly unique parts of Seattle. You can reserve the entire boat for your group of up to 42 people for a special sailing of the Ice Cream Cruise. In the off-season, we can reserve one of our regular sailings for your group. From May through September we offer two options.

BRING WET WIPES

One fun first date idea in Seattle is to take in the view from one of the many rooftop restaurants and bars in the area. Our favorite just might be The Lookout Lounge and Deck, Seattle’s tallest rooftop bar! Set 22 stories up, you’ll have an expansive view that takes in the Olympic Mountains, Elliott Bay, and the surrounding city. The Observatory Bar offers even better views from Level 35, along with barrel-aged cocktails and other beverages to enjoy. Sweet TreatsAs for cool treats, they serve up plenty once the ship leaves the dock. The chocolate root beer float is what they’re known for, but you can get a traditional one too, as well as an orange dreamsicle or strawberry cream just like grandma used to make.

Seattle Water Tours

If you would like to report anything that’s inaccurate, let us know at You can join us for our morning trip from Fisherman’s Terminal to Lake Union Park, or for our return trip from Lake Union Park to Fisherman’s Terminal in the afternoon. Departure times will vary depending on our schedule.

SPRAY PARK

The boat seating is limited to 45 people, I believe. Since you don’t book your tickets ahead of time, it’s first come first served. Arriving 20 minutes early would be good. If I remember correctly it was a small operation, there were only 2 crew members - one person driving and one selling ice cream. They don’t have credit card machines, so you’ll need to pay cash or check for your tickets and any treats you’d like.

Bike and Boat

It’s a little bit sightseeing, a little bit maritime history and a whole lot of souped-up floats and ice cream goodies to help you stay cool on a hot day. Boarding on Sundays is on a first-come-first-aboard basis, with no reservations or advance tickets. Tickets are purchased on board and you can pre-pay for concession items. We accept cash, cards and, of course, gift cards and certificates. Tickets are a little more expensive for adults on those cruises ($15 instead of $11), but kids ride for the same price as the Sunday tour. The Seattle ice cream cruise (operated by the Seattle Ferry Service) happens every Sunday March through October, and on Saturday during the summer (June 17-August 26).

Where Should I Park?

seattle ice cream cruise

Chess and checkers pieces are set up on painted boards all set to play, so you and your sidekick can have a wicked match while cruising around Lake Union. Ship ShapeCaptain Larry Kezner has been navigating the waters of Lake Union on the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise for over 15 years. So whether you’re looking for a new family adventure, have some guests in from out of town or just want an excuse to eat ice cream (on the water!), this is definitely the place to do it.

Ice Cream Cruise - Seattle Water Tours

This sounds like a lot of fun and such a nice place to spend your weekends with your kids and I am sure they will like it. The Center for Wooden Boats offers free boat rides every Sunday. It’s also based on a first come first served system.

BRING CASH

Climb aboard the Fremont Avenue at Lake Union Park for the Ice Cream Cruise. Every hour on the hour we set out on a 45-minute trip around Seattle’s Lake Union, for a narrated tour of this unique and vibrant waterway. Ice cream is a classic way to bond on a first date. You can make it even more memorable by taking an ice cream cruise on Lake Union with Seattle Water Tours! Each cruise is actually a 45-minute tour, starting at Lake Union Park. You and your date will learn about the founding of the Boeing Company, a century-old local shipyard, Seattle’s floating home communities, and other local wonders.

The stairs to get up to the top deck are steep. We had our kids turn around and go down them like a ladder. Bring lots of wet wipes to thoroughly scrub them down after their treats.

Race ‘em, time ‘em, let them float leisurely along. Any way your littlest mate plays will be time well spent on the water. The spray park at Lake Union Park is another splashtastic way to spend a sunny day here. Pack a swimsuit and some sunscreen in the diaper bag for this added maritime adventure. My family and I were in Seattle for a wedding and I believe my mom across this gem being advertised in either a newspaper or a magazine. We had a great time and it was an affordable way to get onto the water and something everyone of all ages could do.

What's impressive is Carnival appears to have cracked the curse of onboard Wi-Fi; we found it quick and efficient. The Warehouse, just off the main lobby on Deck 5, features the latest video and arcade games and is mainly aimed at teens. RedFrog Pub, a Caribbean-themed watering hole -- which has Carnival's own brew, ThirstyFrog Red -- also appears on Sunshine.

Even my special-order veggie burger took under five minutes to make (though it was my least favorite dish on the ship). Another perk of an aft cabin was the size of the balcony — a bit larger than regular balconies in other Carnival cabins I've stayed in. Traditional balconies have room for two chairs and a small table. As mentioned earlier, the ship shows signs of wear and tear, which was evident on our balcony. It desperately needed a good scrub to get rid of the dark spots and paint drippings. Your Scenic Ocean View stateroom aboard Carnival Sunshine provides the best view of the sea that lies ahead of the ship, with views unlike any on land.

Bars

Over the last couple of years, Carnival has rolled out faster Wi-Fi systems across its fleet, so you can now stream video on some ships. Pricing changes over time, but the fastest "premium" service on Carnival Sunshine was recently priced at $18.70 per person, per day. The designated areas for each age group were spacious and offered plenty of seating.

Enjoy nightly entertainment that includes lots of laughter at the comedy club, dancing at the disco, sing-alongs at the piano bar, a movie at the theater and exciting production shows.

You can bring one bottle of wine or Champagne (per person) onto the ship at boarding, as well as up to a dozen standard cans or cartons of nonalcoholic drinks such as sodas. Carnival adds an automatic service gratuity of $14.50 to $16.50 per person, per day to final bills, depending on the cabin category. At the time of publication, prices started from $374 per person for a four-night Bahamas sailing in an inside cabin (excluding taxes and fees). The fitness center was well stocked with just about every piece of equipment you need to keep your workout routine while you cruise. It's free to use, but you can pay extra for instructor-led classes like Pilates, yoga or indoor cycling.

It's moving a bit farther up the East Coast to Norfolk, Virginia, beginning in February 2025. TPG's Kristy Tolley accepted a free trip from Carnival Cruise Line to cruise on Carnival Sunshine. The opinions expressed below are entirely hers and weren't subject to review by the line.

Since that was a decade ago, the cruise line has updated the ship even further over the last 10 years. Carnival Sunshine has changed quite a lot over the years, but we’ll get into that in a moment. For now, though, if you take a Carnival Sunshine cruise, here’s what you can expect. After the Latin Nights show we were still wide awake, so we decided to check out the adult comedy show. This show is meant for passengers 18 and over and is definitely an adult show. At one point I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard.

If you like fresh air with your morning walk or run, head to the top deck and hit the jogging track. Karaoke events were held in the Ocean Plaza area in between the Alchemy Bar and RedFrog Pub. The openness of the space provided optimum participation from passengers and performers, so a lively crowd was always on hand to sing along. The Alchemy Bar on Carnival Sunshine is situated just off the popular Ocean Plaza area, the place to be for trivia games, karaoke and live music. After determining my preferred spirits and flavors, the bartenders always come up with something fantastic.

Mother-daughter and father-son treatments are also available. A 50-minute aroma stone massage is $159, one treatment of acupuncture $150; a 50-minute Couples' Villa Massage costs from $269 per couple. WaterWorks features an awesome waterslide that both kids and adults will enjoy. If you’re not looking for thrills, simply enjoy hanging out by one of the pools. Ocean Suites (which also technically include a few Cloud 9 Spa suites) offer more indoor space, large balconies, walk-in closets and whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms. Special amenities also include priority check-in and express boarding, priority dining times, room stewards and more.

The spa leads to the fitness center, which offers all the latest cardio and weight-training equipment. The fitness center serves as the location for a wide range of instructor-led exercise classes. Basic ones, such as stretching, are included in the cost of the cruise; Pilates, yoga, boot camp and spinning are $12 a class.

Expect to pay per piece, with prices running from $2 (for an undergarment or pair of socks) to $15 (for a two-piece suit). You can adjust the amount at the Guest Services desk before disembarking if you are not satisfied with the service you received. Additionally, an 18% gratuity is added to bar bills and the cover charge of the Chef's Table. As previously mentioned, beginning in 2025, the vessel will move to its new home port of Norfolk, Virginia. From there, it will offer six-night Bahamas and Bermuda sailings, as well as eight-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries. We sailed through a storm for a couple of days, and both the "Welcome Aboard Show" and the Playlist Productions "Epic Rock" show were altered because of it.

Get into an island state of mind before you even set foot on one. RedFrog Pub is our laid-back, no-worries, oh-so-lively Key West-inspired pub. Sample Caribbean fare, dominate at the foosball table, enjoy some sweet tunes from live musicians and sip our tasty signature private-label brew, ThirstyFrog Red. And with all this fun happening, they’ll be LOLing in no time.

Audience members would often get up and dance to the music or sing along. What you come away with is the distinct feeling that there has been a quiet revolution going on, with a triumph of style over tack. In fact, there are certain areas of the ship, such as the Library Bar, Java Blue, Havana Bar, Fahrenheit 555 and Ji Ji, where you'd be hard pressed to tell this was even a Carnival ship.

The 1996-built/2013-reconstructed Carnival Sunshine cruise ship was initially named "Carnival Destiny". After a major refurbishment in 2013 (USD155 million drydock), the vessel was renamed Sunshine. As class, Carnival Sunshine was the first of three Destiny-class Carnival ships - together with Victory-Radiance and Triumph-Sunrise. Ah, imagine a perfect day out on the links, the golfer's zen of the ball, the hole and nothing in between but well-manicured fairway... Whoever it was, they had one thing in mind — maximum fun for mini-golfers, big and small!

In Charleston, Carnival Sunshine will replace Carnival Ecstasy (to be relocated to Jacksonville Florida), while the Jacksonville-homeported Carnival Elation will be repositioned to Port Canaveral FL. The common denominator among passengers was that everyone was ready to celebrate something. On embarkation day, I saw an almost endless sea of matching shirts announcing milestone birthdays, bachelorette parties and other special events. The overall vibe — which continued throughout the cruise — was energetic and festive, and most people didn't take themselves too seriously. It was clear from the moment we stepped on the ship that if you didn't have a fun time, it was entirely your fault.
